Starting summer of 2023, the Boards of the Sherwood and the Montclair have jointly decided to implement a more formal system for planning organized parties in the garden.
Between May and September, we will permit two organized parties a month.
What constitutes an organized party: it’s an event that you plan in advance — like a birthday party for children — where you want to ensure that the garden is reserved for your use. Parties will be
limited to sixteen people
last no longer than three hours
must end by 7:00 p.m.
Most of the buildings’ garden rules will continue to apply (such as staying on garden paths and patio areas) during parties, though we understand that an organized event, by its nature, will likely be noisier than less formal gatherings. And, needless to say, the garden must be cleaned up as soon as the party is over.
In addition, we will charge a $50 fee to reserve the backyard for a party, which will go to funding our continued efforts with the Montclair to improve the garden.
When you’re planning an event that falls into this category, please email the Board (board@thesherwood.org) to see if the date you are requesting is available. If it is, you will need to give a $50 check (made out to the 76th Street Owners Corporation) to Chako. We will also ask that you sign a form indicating that you agree to abide by the rules discussed above.
